Youth DownHill and Skills day.

 |  Tales From The Trails

This past weekend, we had the privilege of bringing not one, but two SA Downhill Champions to Bloemendal, to spend the morning with our scholars. Johann Potgieter and Stef Garlicki are highly respected in the world of downhill racing, and Stef recently narrowly missed out on a top 20 position, at one of the World Cup events. Both of them represented SA in Australia recently, at World Champs.z

To have these two super talented athletes spend time with the children was a sight to behold. They went out their way to make everyone feel welcome, and spent a large part of the morning giving out signatures, posing for photos, as well as giving away some of their racing apparel as worn during their international campaigns.

The club provided boerie-rolls and refreshments, and the day also included some skills training, as well as an exhibition on the club’s jump line (Flow Tera).  A few of the kids even had the opportunity to ride down Lombard’s Tera with them, something that both athletes confirmed was very special for themselves.

A big thank you to Chris Willemse Cycles who contributed greatly in terms of the lucky draw prizes, and even sent a few lucky ones away with some uber cool Oakleys.  The Cyclist Co. one of our local cycling apparel companies, sponsored each scholar with a pair of funky cycling socks, and ensured that each child on the day, left with more than what they came with.  Big thank you to all the sponsors and partners on the day :  Leatt, Fair Cape dairies, Spur, Biosport, Krank’d, Bloemendal, and Rainbow Sound.

Compliments of Colin Hadley, all images from the event can be viewed at :

Thanks for all the parents who ensured their kids was part of this historical day !
